How we research Gibraltar tourism

If you are going to trust this site for travel decisions, you should know how we put it together.

Who runs this site

Things To Do Gibraltar is owned and edited by Ethan Roworth. I live in Gibraltar. Editorial responsibility for every page sits with me. If something is wrong, I am the one who fixes it, and the contact form is the fastest way to reach me.

How attractions and tours get on the site

  1. 1.The candidate list comes from official sources (Visit Gibraltar, the Gibraltar Nature Reserve, operator websites) plus local knowledge.
  2. 2.Each one is checked against three things: does it actually exist right now (still trading, still operating), is the price on the operator's own website current, and does the experience match the description we publish.
  3. 3.Page copy is written in our own words and edited before publishing. We do not copy-paste from operator websites.
  4. 4.Every detail page carries a "verified [date]" timestamp. That date is when the page was last confirmed against its source.
  5. 5.Every page lists a "source URL" pointing back to the operator's or official page so you can verify everything yourself.

How we rank

Where rankings appear (the /best of pages), I rank operators in the order I would book them, full stop. I do not rank by who pays me the highest commission. I do not let affiliate-network rates decide order. The dolphin operator I list first is the one I would actually call first.

When operators are objectively similar (same boat, same routes, same prices), I will tell you that. Sometimes the right answer is "any of these three is fine."

Photo policy

We use real photographs of Gibraltar attractions. Sources we are licensed to use:

  • Wikimedia Commons under CC-BY or CC-BY-SA licences. Photo credit and a link back to the original Commons file is shown beneath the image.
  • Our own photographs, where we have them. These carry a "Things To Do Gibraltar" credit.
  • Operator press kits, where the operator has explicitly granted permission. If we do not have written permission, we link to the operator's own site rather than re-host their photo.

We do not use AI-generated images. Every photo on this site is a real photograph of a real place.

If you are a copyright holder and believe an image on this site has been used incorrectly, contact us and we will remove or re-attribute it within 24 hours.

Update cadence

  • Detail pages (each attraction, tour, day trip): re-verified at least once every 6 months. The "Verified [date]" badge tells you when last.
  • Best-of pages: re-evaluated annually unless an operator drops out or a new one launches that I would rank.
  • Cruise port guide: refreshed each season for that season's ship arrivals.
  • Events calendar: updated monthly.

How affiliate income works

Some of the booking links on this site are affiliate links. When you click one and book, I earn a small commission from the booking platform (Viator, GetYourGuide). The price you pay is exactly the same as if you had gone directly. The commission comes out of the platform's margin, not your booking fee.

Affiliate income does not affect rankings. The order I list operators is the order I would book them, full stop. If the operator I would book first does not have an affiliate program, I still link to them first.

Every page that has affiliate links carries a small inline disclosure. Pages that do not earn anything (the free things page, attraction pages with no booking link) carry no affiliate code.

Mistakes happen

Prices change. Operators close. Hours shift in winter. If you spot something out of date, message me and I will fix it the same day. Best way: use the contact form with the page URL and what is wrong.

What this site is not

  • Not a comparison engine that aggregates third-party data without verification.
  • Not an AI-generated content farm.
  • Not a directory we sell listings on. Operators do not pay to be included or ranked.
  • Not connected to the Gibraltar government or tourist board (we use their data, but we are not them).
