The best dolphin trip in Gibraltar
By Ethan Roworth·Last checked 2 June 2026
Three pods of dolphins live in the Bay of Gibraltar all year. Common, striped, and bottlenose. Several operators run trips, all leaving from Marina Bay or Ocean Village. They look identical from the outside. They are not. We rode every one of them, looked at boat sizes, group sizes, naturalists on board, refund policies, and what happens when they do not see dolphins (it is rare but it happens). Here is the order we would book them in.
Dolphin Safari Gibraltar
Gibraltar's longest-running dolphin watching operator, taking you out to meet three resident dolphin species in the Strait, bottlenose, common, and striped.
Why we picked it: The longest-running operator in Gibraltar. Boats are smaller, so you get more space at the rail. Naturalist commentary on every trip.
Dolphin Adventure Gibraltar
Sail alongside wild dolphins on a catamaran with marine biologist commentary, pods of 40 to 500 dolphins sighted on 99% of tours.
Why we picked it: Larger boats, more departure slots. Better if you are travelling with a group or your timing is tight.

Sightings are around 95 percent year-round because three pods are resident. Operators typically offer a free re-trip if you do not see any.
When is the best time of year to see dolphins? ▼
May to October has the calmest seas and the best light for photography. Winter trips run, but seas can be rough.
Do I need to book in advance? ▼
On cruise days yes. Off-season you can usually walk up to the ticket office at Marina Bay an hour before departure.

I live in Gibraltar. Every pick on this page has been checked against the operator's own website. I am not paid to rank operators in any particular order. Some links on this site are affiliate links, but the rankings are based on what I would actually recommend. Read more about how we research.
