Recommended day plan
Leave Marbella by 9. At Gibraltar by 10. Taxi tour up the Rock (ยฃ35-50, the cable car is closed for refurbishment), do the apes and the cave, lunch at Casemates Square, dolphin boat after lunch, back across the border by 5pm to dodge the worst traffic.
How to get there
Car
50 minutes, 75 km on the AP-7 / A-7 motorway. Park at La Linea and walk across the border.
Bus
Direct Avanza bus from Marbella bus station to La Linea, around โฌ10 each way, 75 minutes. Walk across the border into Gibraltar.
Parking
Park at La Linea (free street parking on the south side) or the multi-storey on the Spanish side of the border. Walking across is faster than driving.
Border crossing
Bring your passport. UK ID card no longer accepted. EU national ID cards still work for EU citizens. Border can take 5 minutes or 90 minutes depending on the day. Worst times: 8-10am and 5-7pm.
