Day 1 - 10:45 AMShort walk north from the battery. Allow 45 minutes. A good contrast with the WWII tunnels you will see this afternoon.

Walk or taxi down and lunch
Day 1 - 12:00 PMWalk down via the Upper Rock road (about 40 minutes) or take a taxi from the top (around £10). Lunch at Casemates. Refuel.

WWII Tunnels
Day 1 - 2:00 PMTaxi to the tunnel entrance near Queensway. 50km of tunnels bored 1939-1944. Far larger than the Great Siege system. Allow 75 minutes. Entry around £12.

Day 1 - 4:00 PMTaxi to the eastern face of the Rock. UNESCO World Heritage Site. Neanderthal occupation until around 30,000 years ago. Check access arrangements in advance.

Day 2 - 9:00 AMMarina Bay, 90-minute tour into the Strait. Common and bottlenose dolphins on most trips. Morning is the best time for calm water and good light.

Kayak along the Rock's base
Day 2 - 11:00 AMCheck with local operators. Guided kayak tours along the eastern limestone cliffs give a perspective no land visit can match. Allow 90 minutes. Pre-booking required.

Day 2 - 1:00 PMQuick lunch near the ferry terminal. Afternoon ferry to Tangier: 60-90 minutes through the world's busiest shipping strait.

Tangier and the Kasbah
Day 2 - 3:30 PMA few hours in the medina and Kasbah before the return crossing. The physical scale of the Strait seen from the Tangier side puts Gibraltar in a different context.

Evening ferry back to Gibraltar
Day 2 - 6:00 PMThe return crossing at dusk with the Rock catching the last light is one of the best sights in the western Mediterranean.
