About this tour

Gibraltar does not have a dedicated food tour operator in the way that larger cities do, but combining two established experiences gives you a solid afternoon of local food and drink culture. Start with the Karel city walking tour (from Grand Casemates Square, 2 hours, £20) which takes in the historic streets and covers the British, Spanish, Moorish, and Jewish cultural layers that shaped Gibraltar's cuisine.

Follow it with the Gibraltar Gin Experience at Spirit of the Rock (8 George's Lane, £25), where you taste six gins including Campion, made with local botanicals and connected to the Rock's naval history, and finish with a complimentary double tot. Spirit of the Rock is open Monday to Friday until 18:00 and Saturday until 16:00.

Gibraltar's food scene is compact but has its own character: calentita (a chickpea pancake, Gibraltar's national dish), panissa (similar but richer), rosto (slow-roasted beef with tomato sauce), and an unusually good selection of British pubs serving proper Sunday roasts. Main Street has everything from traditional boozers to modern restaurants. The Eliott Hotel, Clipper Bar, and The Lounge are all worth knowing.

This listing describes a self-directed combination. Both component experiences can be booked individually via buytickets.gi and spiritoftherock.gi. Combined approximate cost: £45 per person.
