Marina Bay
A modern marina packed with yachts, waterfront restaurants, and the departure point for boat tours around the Rock.
About Marina Bay
Marina Bay is Gibraltar's main recreational harbour, and it carries a noticeably different energy to the bustle of Casemates Square and Main Street. Here the pace slows, the views open up across the Bay of Gibraltar towards Algeciras and the Spanish coast, and the atmosphere tilts towards leisure. Rows of yachts and motor cruisers line the pontoons, many of them registered in Gibraltar thanks to the territory's favourable maritime regulations.
The waterfront promenade is the social spine of the marina. Restaurants and bars line the quayside, offering everything from grilled fish and tapas to American-style brunch menus. On a clear day the views from a terrace table here are something. You are looking out over one of the world's busiest shipping lanes, with container ships and tankers moving through the Strait in the middle distance, and the mountains of Morocco visible on the African horizon.
Marina Bay is also the practical hub for water-based activities. Dolphin-watching boat tours depart from here regularly, and these trips into the Strait of Gibraltar are consistently one of the most memorable things Gibraltar has to offer. The waters here are home to three resident dolphin species, and sightings are reliable. Fishing charters, kayak hire, and private boat trips can all be arranged from the marina.
Adjacent to Marina Bay is Ocean Village, a newer mixed-use development that has added a casino, a food court, a cinema, and additional restaurant options. The two areas blend into each other along a continuous promenade.
In the evenings, Marina Bay is one of the liveliest parts of Gibraltar. The restaurants fill up, the bar terraces attract a younger crowd, and the lights reflecting off the water make for a good setting. Whether you are watching the boats, waiting for a dolphin tour, or simply having a long lunch in the sun, the marina is reliable.
