About

NOTE: The Gibraltar Cable Car is currently closed for refurbishment. Reach the Upper Rock by taxi tour (around £35-50 per group) or by walking up via Royal Anglian Way (about 90 minutes, free). The Skywalk is the newest addition to the Upper Rock and it does exactly what it says. You walk out onto a glass-floored platform cantilevered over the edge of the Rock at over 400 metres above sea level, look down through your feet at the Mediterranean and the town far below, and try to remember to breathe. It is theatrical in the best possible way. The views up here are extraordinary. On a clear day you can see the coast of Morocco to the south, the Costa del Sol stretching east, and the Bay of Algeciras laid out to the west. The Strait of Gibraltar narrows to about 14 kilometres at this point and you can watch container ships, tankers, and the occasional cruise vessel making the transit in real time. When the wind picks up at altitude, the whole thing gets an additional edge. The platform itself is solidly engineered. The glass is reinforced and the structure is well-anchored into the Rock face. It does not flex in any obvious way, which is reassuring for anyone on the nervous side. That said, standing on glass with a 400-metre drop below it is not something you can fully reason your way through. Your body has opinions regardless of what your brain says about the structural specifications. Access is included in the Upper Rock Nature Reserve combined ticket (£19 for adults). The Skywalk sits near the cable car upper station. Sunset is an exceptional time to visit if you can manage the timing. The silhouette of Morocco across the water as the light fades is worth arranging around. Most visitors spend 20 to 30 minutes here. Short stop, high impact.

Accessibility

The glass platform is accessible from the cable car upper station. Steep paths elsewhere on the Upper Rock. Not suitable for wheelchairs beyond the cable car drop-off.
